Insomnia—Relive your best times (in bed).

At my presentation Sleep Better Naturally, I discussed various methods of reducing time spent falling asleep either initially or after awakening.

My most effective method is to visualize a past vacation. I lie in bed remembering in detailed chronology all the fun times associated with that vacation. If I relive the vacation several consecutive nights, I remember a surprising amount of detail. I don’t focus on accuracy but creating a positive focus for my nighttime busy mind.

Focusing on celebrations, recent pleasant experience or a favorite novel also helps me focus on fun memories. Sure beats worrying about tomorrow!
